If you have decided to move to an assisted living facility, than you need to do some things first before you sign the contracts. It is very important that you research what the resident agreement in tells. Signing all of the contracts before you even see the contracts could end up disastrous.
Before you move into your new assisted living center, you need to make sure you read carefully through the resident agreement. If you can’t read the agreements, than I would have a lawyer read through them or ask for a large-print copy. Don’t be afraid of asking for a large-print copy or any questions. This is your contract and you should know what is in it.
Another key tip is to have a lawyer that knows about assisted living care. If you have a lawyer that specializes in another industry, it could be a waste of time and money for you. Having a lawyer read through the contracts will give you a legal perspective. That legal perspective will be of great value to you and give you a more accurate portrayal of what the contracts are offering you.
Having a basic understanding of what the resident agreement is always helpful. The resident agreement should usually be in English, very easy to comprehend and legible. Most of the agreements will cover the terms that you and the facility have agreed too. The terms should be about costs, services, discharge policies, grievance and your rights as a resident.
Remember that you are the resident and if you don’t like anything in the contracts, notify the assisted living facility.
